Selecting cleanup items for browsers
The Webroot software includes a list of cleanup items related to browsing with Internet Explorer and Firefox, such as the browsing history and the Internet cache.
To select cleanup items for Internet Explorer or Firefox:
1.
In the Icon panel, click Cleanup.
The Cleanup panel opens.
2.
Make sure Clean Internet items is selected and click Edit.
The Internet Cleanup Items panel opens.
3.
Click the Internet Explorer tab or the Firefox tab, depending on which browser is installed on your computer.
4.
Select or deselect the options you want, as described in the following tables. Items with a check mark will be cleaned.
5.
Click OK.
 
Internet Explorer cleanup items  
Address bar history
Removes the list of recently visited Web sites, which is stored as part of Internet Explorer’s AutoComplete feature. You see this list when you click the arrow on the right side of the Address drop-down list at the top of the Internet Explorer window.
Cookies
Deletes all cookies from your computer. Cookies are small files that store information about your interaction with a Web site.
Temporary Internet Files folder (cache)
Deletes the copies of the Web pages you have visited. Internet Explorer stores copies in this folder so it can open Web pages faster the next time you visit the same site.
History (visited web sites)
Deletes the list of recently visited Web sites. You see this list when you click History on the Internet Explorer toolbar.
Setup log file
Deletes log files created when you update Internet Explorer. After you install the updates, you no longer need these files.
Downloaded folder memory
Deletes the contents in the folder that stores files you last downloaded using Internet Explorer. After downloading, you no longer need these files.
Media bar (Media Player) history
Removes the list of recently opened audio and video files using the media player that is part of Internet Explorer. The media player plays audio and video files that you access on Web sites.
Autocomplete form data
Deletes the list of data that you entered into forms on any Web sites. This information is stored as part of Internet Explorer’s AutoComplete feature, which predicts a word or phrase based on the characters you begin to type (for example, your e-mail address or password).
Cleanup Index.dat files on Windows startup (Cookies, Cache and History)
Clears data from the index.dat file, which is a growing Windows repository of Web addresses, search queries, and recently opened files. Index.dat functions like an active database and can only be cleaned on Windows startup.
This option works when you also select one or more of the following options: Cookies, Temporary Internet Files Folder (Cache), or History.
 
Firefox cleanup items  
Internet cache
Deletes copies of the Web pages that you have visited recently. The cache helps Web pages open faster the next time you visit them.
Cookies
Deletes all cookies from your computer. Cookies are small files that store information about your interaction with a Web site.
Form Data
Deletes the list of data that you entered into forms on any Web sites. This information is stored if you selected a privacy option to save form information. You see this data when you visit a Web site and start entering information (for example, your e-mail address or password) and the information automatically appears as you type.
URL history
Deletes the list of Web sites that you visited recently. You see this URL list when you select History from the Go menu.
